Last time, we mentioned the Gears of War 2 Midnight Launch Events in various cities. This time we dug up one video of such a Gears of War 2 release day event, so take a peep:

Aside from that bit of fun stuff, we’ve also learned about Gears of War 2’s sales over its first week, which have racked up amazingly quickly. VGCharts.com put up a report that Gears of War 2 launched in the top spot (not like we didn’t figure that). Still, it seriously exceeded expectations, breaking a whopping 2 million sales in a few short days, putting Sony’s triple-A competition Resistance 2 in the dust heap, with the PS3 flagship title pulling a comparatively modest 304,958. Even still, Gears of War 2 hit shelves several days later, leaping way ahead despite Resistance 2 having a half-week head start!

We’ve also heard of a massively hardcore accomplishment: Gears Of War 2: Horde Wave 50 Completed On Insane. Gearheadsofwar.com, the self-proclaimed victors, said, “We started from Wave 1 on the ‘Day One’ map and whittled away at this for about three days. The dirty, dirty Horde didn’t stand a damn chance! Forget about throwing the kitchen sink at us, the Locusts threw the damn house! We have it all on film, baby!” Must have taken a lot of sweat, tears and soda…

On the other side of the internet, site Gaming Bits put up a post about various Gears of War 2 Developer Midnight Launch Events. Official shindigs are going down in Los Angeles, New York, Bellvue, and London tonight but if you can’t hit one of those, there are still a bunch of shops such as Best Buy that will be burning the midnight oil. A little sniffing around should yield some retailers near you that will be staying open for tonight’s Gears of War 2 release date…

But we’re not stopping with there, since we’ve gotten a peak at the first ten minutes of Gears of War 2 leaked on GameTrailers laid bare before your eyes!

Last up, before you go running off to get a used copy, be sure to pay attention to GameCherry’s report on something they call “Epic Gets Creative With GOW2 Resales”. There are Five multiplayer maps from the original Gears of War that are available for free and have been modified for Gears of War 2 gameplay. However, they can only be installed once on a single Xbox 360 hard drive. What this accomplishes (not for you) for developer Epic Games is an incentive for customers to not buy used copies of the game. There’s no way to get these old-school Gears of War maps unless you buy a brand-new copy.

That grinding sound you hear is the churning of the impending Gears of War release date! Let’s have a little look-see into the bright and dark spots of the Gears of War 2 news and rumors…

Starting things off, we’ve got words from a lesser-known site that claims to know What Multiplayer feels like in Gears of War 2. Gameguru.in, as it’s known, has said (don’t blame us for the shoddy English): “There is no more sticking to walls, players can wall bounce but again it’s not as fast enough. They can also break out of their slide before going into cover, the party system very similar to Halo games made by Bungie.” And is a Halo comparison exactly bad? Besides, the devs have clearly shown they don’t just do things arbitrarily, so we’re not too worried about a few adjustments.

Let’s follow that with a brief piece entitled Gears of War 2 Spoilers (Sort of), written by Chris Buffa of GameDaily. He wrote: “What Microsoft doesn’t want you to know about its big, bad sequel.” Beside “spoilers” there are definitely some cool shots.

Lastly, we have to pass on some bad news: CliffyB - Gears of War 2 “definitely not” Coming to PC. N4G had this to say: “Gameplayer spoke with Gears of War 2 lead designer CliffyB today and unearthed the info that unlike the original, there is no way the sequel will come to PC. He also mentions its dismal PS3 potential.” Obviously, if your here, you’ve got a 360 already, so nothing really to worry about, although you might want to let your friends know that they can only get Gears of War 2 for xbox 360…

This week some interesting and useful pieces of info have surfaced pertaining to all things qualifying as Gears of War 2 news and rumors.

To start things off, apparently a reasonably-priced Gears of War 2 Limited Edition has come to light. GameXtract tracked down the deal and said: “I like getting my video games cheaper. Especially when I don’t have to wait for three months till everyone else doesn’t give a dam about the game. It looks like ToysRus is trying to get an upper hand on pre-orders this year with Gears of War 2. The limited edition is listed on the site for $59.99 instead of the regular $69.99 found at many other retailers.” Extra Gears of War 2 toys for basically nothing? Sign us up!

Let’s follow up with Gears of War 2 radar are some Leaked Gears of War 2 multiplayer screenshots. Split-screen writes : “In order to refrain from spoilers another little piggy sent us the list of multiplayer maps and a couple of snaps, in case you are one of those who loves whispering Marcus Fenix into someone’s ears then its time to get those chainsaw’s outta here.” While the images are not super-nice quality, it’s still a cool peek into what we can expect in the Gears of War 2 multiplayer.

For our last news grab, Epic themselves (via CVG), following the announcement that the game has gone gold, spoke out on their pride in the game’s quality: “After two years of pouring our heart and passion into Gears of War 2, the team is immensely happy with what we’ve created,” said design director Cliff Bleszinski. “This is Epic’s best work yet, and we can’t wait to see the response from fans and newcomers to the series alike.” Too bad we can’t see for ourselves, since the game doesn’t come out until the first week of November…

The Gears of War 2 Experience: E-Day Emergency Call is a marketing move to drum up excitement for the upcoming Gears of War 2 release date. The scheme by Microsoft Game Studios provides a toll-free number where you can call and leave a message as “a terrified Seran on Emergence Day.” The number is 1-800-598-6379. According to the folks at teamxbox.com: “Get your friends to help and let loose. Remember, it’s E-Day, so nobody’s seen a Locust or heard of Delta Squad before. And bonus points for keeping the language fairly clean. We will immortalize the best five entries on our site.” You’ll need to agree to some rules, so read through the official post. Do a few practice runs with your terrified voice before trying a go as one of the Gears of War 2 soldiers.

Next up: the rather bizarre Gears of War 2 Limited Edition Energy Drink. According to the people at ButtonMasher.com: “Microsoft and Demon Energy Drink are teaming up to run a promotion at the launch of Gears of War 2. The promo will include limited edition Demon Energy Drink cans and bottles as well as a competition to win the first copies of Gears of War 2 in the world.” Will an energy drink help gamers get ready for Gears of War Two? Hmm… seems like if you want to be a Gears of War 2 sniper, perhaps the heightened alertness might be useful, but what about trembling hands?

Lastly, gamers in the UK got the opportunity for a sweet deal: Gears 2 and replica gold lancer for £129. According to Xbox360Fanboy.com, “Not to be confused with the Gears of War 2 in-game gold plated Lancer, UK retailer gamestation is offering diehard fans the chance to own a replica gold painted Gears Lancer. The same toy Lancer that’s available exclusively on Amazon.com, but with a fancy gold paint scheme. If you’re interested in owning one of these bundles, you better start saving up already. The Gears of War 2 gold plated Lancer bundle (collector’s edition plus Lancer) will set you back a hefty £129.” What would you rather have? A gold lancer or the regular kind? Either way the roster of Gears of War 2 toys certainly has expanded. If you can’t get your hands on the gold lancer, there’s still the “more realistic” replica. Apparently there are some really useful things you can accomplish with the saw-edged icon of Gears of War 2 guns.

Before the official announcement, people were asking, “Are they making Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360 console?” Does the Lancer cut through a Locust grunt like a greased knife through hot butter? It really was a no-brainer that the game was coming, but what no one knew was where it would take Marcus Fenix and the hardened members of Delta Squad. We all saw the Lightmass Bomb rock the foundations of the Locust Horde, but no one could have foreseen the disease known as Rust Lung that would come down in the aftermath in a twist of irony for humanity. With this new problem at hand, what could be worse than having entire cities vanish? It’s pretty obvious the Locust threat remains, and that they’ll be implementing nefarious plans to get revenge.
